SMSHE offers educational meetings and events throughout the year. Our educational meetings are designed to provide to our members and guests information regarding regulatory compliance and new technology designed for healthcare facilities. Lunch is provided at the meetings by SMSHE, or the presenter. Our meetings are typically held at the Engineering Society of Detroit in Southfield or at a local healthcare facility.

Other events provided by SMSHE are our holiday luncheon and annual business meeting, networking events, SMSHE Schmooze (in conjunction with the AIA Healthcare conference), and our annual golf outing.

Volunteer with Forgotten Harvest

Forgotten Harvest – Distribution Center

Please join SMSHE as we volunteer with Forgotten Harvest at their Distribution Center in Oak Park, MI. Volunteers are needed to help pack emergency food boxes and re-pack or sort fresh nutritious food that will be distributed through Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb County.
This Event is open to all everyone. You do not need to be a SMSHE Member to attend. Please feel free to bring a spouse, co-worker, friend, etc. Children must be atleast 10 years of age.
Building emergency food boxes is the main focus. Other tasks may include, but are not limited to:
  • General cleaning and distribution center needs
  • Sweep distribution center floor and mop corners
  • Dust off the top of food boxes/pallets
  • Separate and bag food into gaylords
  • Put cardboard in the baler
Volunteers in the distribution center must be at least 10 years of age. Volunteers under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

MANDATORY DRESS CODE: Must wear long pants & closed-toe shoes.

  • NO open-toe or heel shoes (any kind of shoe exposing feet or any part of the foot, like sandals, sling-back, or Crocs)
  • NO tank tops 
  • NO jewelry.  Wedding rings are fine.  All earrings and facial piercings must be removed.
